Profile of the Hon. Joseph P. Dorsa

Recently elected Civil Court Judge Joseph P. Dorsa, is a life long resident of Queens County. Until his ascension to the bench, he was engaged in the general practice of law since 1961 in the community of Corona, and was a partner in the law firm of Dorsa & Villoni, Esqs.

Dominic Villoni, the Judge's former law partner, described their relationship as "27 years of mutual trust." "Joe is a warm, friendly, sincere person," said Mr. Villoni. "He was always most accessible to clients." "Joe will be the kind of judge that will listen to litigants and attorneys, give the parties full access to his attention, and hear both sides thoroughly before making his decision."

Judge Dorsa is a graduate of St. Francis College where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude in 1957. He is also a recipient of a St. Thomas Moore Scholarship to St. John's University of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 1960.

Judge Dorsa has been actively engaged as a leader in many professional and fraternal organizations. He is the Past President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Columbian Lawyers Association of Queens County, the Corona Lawyers Club and the Corona Lions Club. He is a member of the Queens County Bar Association, where he served as Chairman of the Lawyer's Placement Committee. He is also a member of the Catholic Lawyers Guild and the Queensboro Elks 878.

Judge Dorsa has devoted himself to various community activities. He is the past Financial Secretary of the Corona Ambulance Corp, and past President of the Broadway-Flushing Homeowners and Treasurer and Past Chairman of St. Andrew Avellino Board of Education. He also served as a member of Community Planing Board #4 in Corona and Parish Council of St. Andrew Avellino in Flushing.

Judge Dorsa was also active in community affairs. He previously served as executive member of the Jefferson Democratic Club and the Democratic District Leader in the 25th Assembly District, Part B.

Judge Dorsa is married, and has two grown sons, Joseph and John.
