New York and Long Island Family-based Immigration

At Scheich & Goldsmith, P.C., our three-attorney general practice law firm, our lawyers help families throughout New York City and Long Island with family-based immigration services.

How long has it been since you have seen your fiancée, your wife, your parent, or your child?
We take great pleasure in helping re-unite families. Whether you are petitioning on behalf of your spouse, fiancée, mother, father, child, sister, or brother, an application for a family-based green card or visa usually means you have been at risk of soon being separated from someone you love. The wait, the expense, and the anxiety can be overwhelming. Contact our firm and discuss your concerns with one of our attorneys at our office in Richmond Hill, Queens and Hicksville, New York. Immigration laws are complex and intimidating, but every year thousands of families succeed in getting fiancée visas or other relative visas, or successfully petition for permanent residency for a family member.

Spouse overstays visa?
Family immigration includes cases where an immigrant came to the United States as a visitor with a legal visa, overstayed the visa, and married a resident. Now the newly married immigrant wants a green card and the hope it carries for future naturalization and citizenship. Our legal advice will help the spouse go through the process and see that all applications are filled out properly and the green card interview goes smoothly.

Are you trying to bring your brother or sister to the USA?
Our great nation has seen generations follow the same pattern - the family takes its resources and sends one member to the United States. The immigrant gains a green card, then naturalization and citizenship. Over the course of years of hard work and careful saving, the person brings, one at a time, a sister, a brother, a mother, a father, a son, a daughter, an aunt, and an uncle to join the growing family in the USA. If you have a relative-sponsor who is a lawful permanent resident or a citizen, you can apply for a green card. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) need to approve an immigrant visa petition, and the US Dept. of State must assign an immigrant visa number. If you are outside of the USA you then need to go to the US consulate to complete the process. If you are already in the US, our attorney will help you fill out the necessary forms regarding your sponsor's income, any employment applications, and medical examinations.

If you are a victim of domestic violence, you may self-petition for a green card.
Attorney Michael Goldsmith has been active in working with immigrant victims of spousal abuse. In cases where it can be shown that an abusive spouse refused to petition for a green card and has used the threat of deportation against their partner, the other partner has the right to self-petition for a green card.
